Project: Mhondoro Safari Lodge – Custom Joinery & Interiors
Location: Welgevonden Game Reserve, Limpopo, South Africa
Client: Mhondoro Safari Lodge
Category: Hospitality / Luxury Safari Lodge Joinery
Project Brief
Mhondoro Safari Lodge sought to refresh their interior spaces, with a specific focus on custom woodwork that marries luxury comfort with the rugged, authentic feel of the bushveld. The goal was to create functional, aesthetically striking pieces for the bar, guest bathrooms, and suites that draw upon the natural environment.
Our Solution
- Raw Timber Block Vanities A central focus in the bathrooms was the use of solid, thick-cut timber blocks for vanity surfaces and freestanding bathtub elements. This approach highlights the wood’s deep, natural grain and splits, creating a powerful, earthy focal point.
- Feature Bar Design & Joinery The main bar was clad with custom-cut, horizontal rough-sawn wood planks, illuminated with warm lighting to accentuate the texture. This structural joinery creates a bold, inviting atmosphere in the main lodge area.
- Functional Open-Concept Storage Guest suites were fitted with custom, open-concept wooden wardrobe units featuring clean lines, ample shelving, and hanging space. This design approach maintains an airy feel and ensures maximum utility within the luxurious thatched-roof rooms.
- Modern Bathroom Vanities & Frames We designed and installed bespoke floating vanities and large, matching mirror frames in the guest bathrooms. These pieces utilize a light, durable timber with integrated drawers and open shelving, balancing the rustic theme with a clean, spa-like aesthetic.
Outcome
The custom joinery at Mhondoro successfully integrates high-end design with the essence of the surrounding reserve. The blend of robust, raw wood elements in public areas and bathrooms with the functional, clean cabinetry in the suites results in a cohesive design that reinforces the lodge’s reputation for natural, tranquil luxury.
